NEW ZEALAND PRIMARY HEALTH CARE AWARDS 2020

The inaugural NZ Primary Health Care Awards/He Tohu Maori Ora  showcase innovation, collaboration, and superlative outcomes in the Primary Health Care sector.  There were 22 award categories recognizing work that is already happening in the sector and to encourage further collaboration.  the collective aim as stated by the organizers is to improve access, health and well-being outcomes for Maori and non-Maori alike.   Winners were honored at a glittering black-tie gala at Auckland waterfront's Shed 10 the evening of February 29, 2020.   

Castlecliff Health entered the competition for the 'MEDISPACE GOOD SPACE AWARD.    

This award recognizes the imaginative design of a healthcare facility that contributes to an improved patient/consumer experience, enhancing the model of care and supporting the practitioners who work in the space. The project or design initiative was required to be original and the entry needed to explain the following aspects of the project: 

• Purpose of the design.
• Background research or justification for the project
• The planning and implementation process and
• Methodology and results.

In addition the the above the project was expected to have an impact on the following:

• Promoting a patient-centred model of care to drive the design.
• Have a positive impact on patient wellbeing.
• Create an improved patient journey beyond our clinic’s service and 
• Promotion of collaboration among health professionals.

Castlecliff Health!  It was a huge honor for the team to be nominated and to then go onto win the award in this category.  The team take pride in the fact that a small team like ours has been recognized nationally for the highest honor in the Primary Health Care sector for innovation in the design of a clinic facility.   The entire team attended the awards night to receive the honor at the gala on February 29, 2020.  

Judges comments on our entry are as below:

• "The space is very inviting with lovely touches that make it a much more friendly environment for patients and staff. The ease of access to the clinic and the incorporation of the natural environment makes this an inviting atmosphere."
• "I enjoyed reading about this and seeing what has been achieved. Initially I wondered about your early comment that you "..worked to improve health outcomes for our clientele". However, having seen what you have done, the feedback you have received and achieving the Cornerstone accreditation, I get a positive feeling that your clientele will certainly enjoy and appreciate the comfort and nice touches you have made. An excellent submission." 
• "A wonderful new and colorful facility that appears spacious inside and has a lot of potential outdoors as the garden grows. Good equipment noted. Excellent 'inspirational people' wall in the waiting area. The 'pet corner' is a wonderful bonus - perhaps moving to trained pet therapy animals?" 
• "Beautiful facility. I like the video walkthrough."
